Currently a doctoral student in Greek and Latin literature at the University of Basel, I studied Classics (and, for some time, German literature) at Merton College, Oxford (BA), where I was a two-time Krasis Scholar, and at Trinity College, Cambridge (MPhil), where I was the Eric Evan Spicer Scholar, and my thesis on ‘obscurity’ (asapheia) in ancient literary criticism was awarded the Faculty Members’ Classical Essay Prize (2025). My PhD, as part of joint Basel-Cambridge SNSF-funded Project on ancient ‘quotation culture’ (CITE), focusses on forms, methods, and uses of poetic quotation and exegesis in the postclassical rhetorical tradition. I also have ancillary research interests in the history and theory of ‘philology’, and in classical reception within (feminist and avant-garde) cinema and within modern poetic and critical traditions (especially German and Iranian).
My essays (on various aspects of literature, film, and linguistics) have been published in a range of journals and magazines, including minor literature[s], Wilderness House Literary Review, And Other Poems, and Babel Magazine, among others. I have also been commissioned to write public-facing articles for The Ashmolean’s website and for NYU’s Goethe Project. During various moments of productivity, I was Editor-in-Chief of The Isis Magazine (2022), The Camera Publication (2025), and The Alexandria (2023), as well as Associate Editor of The Oxford Review of Books (2023). I am now co-Editor of the blog Bild + Kritik, an online publication borne out of the eikones Research Centre (Basel’s Zentrum für die Theorie und Geschichte des Bildes).
